The worst cake I've ever had...but thankfully it's not a bakery...

Doesn't that cake look good? Too bad it didn't taste half as good as it looked!

I finally went to Vincenzo's in Sharonville. I'm underwhelmed.

The salad wasn't good - I mean it wasn't awful - but it wasn't good. It was boring old iceberg lettuce.

I got the special - it was salmon, scallops and shrimp on angel hair also with artichoke hearts, mushrooms, sun dried tomatoes and onions. It was $22.95. It was just dressed with olive oil and garlic.

It was fine - lots of oil - lots of mushrooms - no artichoke hearts that I could find. The seafood was all cooked very nicely. There were WAY too many sun dried tomatoes...like seriously...I made a little ring of them around the bowl. They were chewy and tough.

So dinner was fine...then we decided to get dessert and split it. They have a Grand Marnier Flourless Chocolate Mousse Cake. That's whats pictured above - sure looks good?!

It wasn't. Not sure where the "mousse" came in - I always think of that as light...this wasn't. The chocolate was bitter, the "cake" fell apart in hunks and just wasn't good. I like cake...a lot! I usually will eat any cake - even if it's not great - but this I didn't even finish. My friend didn't like it either.

The ambiance is another thing - it's loud and open - like a cafeteria. I much prefer Ferrari's in Madiera for this style of italian food - it's cozy. I feel like it should be cozy - I like that...

The bill was $30 each...which seems like a lot since we didn't get any alcohol.

Overall - 2.5 stars I guess. I don't really want to go back...the atmosphere, the price, meh - nothing special. I would guess the lunch specials would be good and something more "traditional" with a red sauce might be better.

  1. I have never even heard of this place, but I love Ferrari's so sounds like I should stick with that!

I always feel weird writing "meh" reviews. I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings (which is probably a little presumptious of me to think who will read it, oh well) but I do it because I want to be honest too. I almost like seeing these "honest" reviews more than the glowing ones.

  2. I hear ya - sometimes I feel bad writing them! haha

But I'd rather know - almost adds credibility when you do say something is really great!

  3. I guess you can't have their cake and eat it too, eh? Ha ha. Sorry, couldn't resist.

As a PR person with restaurant clients, I sort of like when bloggers stick with the "If you don't have something nice to say..." rule - although at any of the restaurants I represent, if we screw up, we'll take an opportunity to fix it and hopefully wow you the next time.

But as a reader and someone unfamiliar with some of the restaurants you review, I appreciate the candor. The meal wasn't good. Why should I go there and try it if it wasn't good?

  4. I also like when people comment that "hey i've been there and had this and it was AWESOME" - then it gives me a reason to go back and a recommendation of something to order that i know will be good...

again - it's always just one person's opinion - but that's the fun of it!

i mean - hey - if somebody wants to buy my dinner - maybe i'll give them a nicer review! haha - JK! then i'd be working for that big building a block away! :-)

  5. I have eaten at many of the restaurants you bash! I have gotten several good meals and have good experiences maybe you should consider retiring I mean if your 35 and single I can see why your so negative. These places seem to offer many good meals to many happy customers for they are in business still not like the favs maisoniette,Pigalls or other overrated places. You also seem to complain about price a lot I mean $30 for Salmon,Scallops, sundried tomatoes, dessert have you got granny syndrome i remember when all you could eat Long Johns was a dollar those where the days. Get a man and get some appreciation for Cincy's quality restaurants!

  6. Someone who posts comments as Anonymous chooses to attack me for being 35 and single. Convenient.

    It's a blog - it's my opinion.

  7. this place was better before it expanded. when it first opened at an old gas station it was small and the food was always great. now it is too big and the quality of food isn't as good. bigger is not always better.

  8. I've never had a bad meal there. I've eaten lunch there 3 different times and tried different things each time. The soup is wonderful, pasta has always been good as well. Never tried their cake. I would go back...

  9. Always amazed at different experiences. This is far and away our favorite restaurant. We have gone since it was in the gas station. Only distance keeps us from going more often.

I always get the Pollo Tre Fromagi... NOT low fat with Moz, prov, and parmesan cheese.

But yeah, I like honest opinions. You should give it another shot. Agree 110% on the salad, and I am not an iceburg lettuce snob.

  10. I'll disagree with your opinion, but it could simply have been a bad day. I've eaten there many times and never had a bad plate. However, if you don't know what to expect, the house salad almost looks "unprofessional" it is presented so plainly and even the small water glasses just look basic.

If you can get past those two things, the meals are excellent, the service is friendly, and I've enjoyed the desserts and espresso there too. And the prices are reasonable for a nice meal.

  11. This has been a favorite of mine since they were back on Route 4 across from Maple Knoll. Everything is prepared when you order. I've always gotten the fish or chicken picata and pasta with Aurora sauce. Last week I tried for the first time their cheese ravioli with tomato sauce and have never had anything quite as good. I can't wait to go back for that!!! Try it again and order something else. Their soup is outstanding too ~ skip the salad and get that! I only do lunch there. Patricia
