Giveaway Day! This time...Red Lobster

I've been contacted a lot by "chains" lately to do some giveaways on my site - I don't see the harm. I figure you guys deserve some love too! This time it was Red Lobster. They're remodeling a bunch of locations and "revamping" the menu a bit.

I'm always a big fan of their cheddar garlic biscuits (Bisquick's are nearly identical!) so I said sure! Up front here - they gave me a $50 gift card for dinner and then 2-$10 cards to give away (scroll to the bottom for the giveaway). I know $10 isn't much - but hey - go for lunch and it's free! Free lunch! Free lunch!

The Kenwood location is under going the remodel and they weren't quite done when I went a couple weeks ago but have since finished the front so I hear.

Inside, from what I can tell, they've remodeled the front desk and bar area but not the true interior where the tables & chairs are. Well I think they had new booths but I really couldn't tell much of a decor change.

Here's the new bar area - it's nice.

As always, we started out with salads. I'm a big fan of their Caesar salad...it was good this time but not quite as good as I remembered.

I think their dinner salad is nice as well - good amount of vegetables.

Ahhhh the cheddar bay biscuits...I could seriously just eat a meal of these and typically I do. We definitely got 2 baskets of biscuits. They are so delicious!

Larry got the seafood jambalaya ($12.99) - it's one of their specials right now. He liked it just fine - I had a bite or two for taste and wasn't too excited. He really likes the little scallops whereas I'm not a fan. I thought it was kind of bland.

My sister doesn't like seafood - but she likes free meals - so she came along. I like to refer to her as a chickenatarian since she eats vegetarian + chicken. She got the Cajun Chicken Linguine Alfredo ($12.75), low on the cajun. Again - she was happy - I had a couple of bites and wasn't too excited.

I went out on a limb and decided to try a special and got the Lobster and Bourbon Shrimp and Scallops ($23.99). There was a skewer of shrimp, skewer of bacon-wrapped scallops and a lobster tail served over mashed potatoes and roasted corn.

Truly - the roasted corn was the best - I loved it. The lobster didn't have a lot of flavor, the shrimp were tiny and the bourbon sauce/bacon overpowered the scallops.

I feel bad saying these things since my meal was free (well we went over and had tip) but I'm always one for honesty.

I typically get the crab alfredo but it wasn't as good the last couple of times either so I decided to try their seafood. They have a new wood-fire grill menu with fresh fish that, looking back, I wish I'd taken advantage of and tried that. I'd like to see how they do with just a piece of salmon.

Why Should You Go? While I didn't enjoy my meal that much - I obviously will go back to Red Lobster. Who doesn't end up there now and again?

Although - with the line being out the door and a wait of an hour by the time we left - I do sort of want to shake people in line and say - GO SOMEWHERE LOCAL!

If only the locals had those damn biscuits!!!!

GIVEAWAY DAY! GIVEAWAY DAY!

Although I didn't love the meal - Red Lobster has it's place in Americana and they've given me 2-$10 gift cards for my readers! So leave a comment below WITH A WAY TO CONTACT YOU about what you order at Red Lobster - cuz we all know! I'll randomly choose 2 winners next Friday.

I also have more giveaways coming - Farm Fresh Delivery (locally-grown fresh fruit & veges delivered to your door) and Brueggers are on the way!

  2. I had been raised by a mother who was a bit of a seafood snob and thus,I, at 24,had never been to a red lobster. This winter a couple of my girls arranged a dinner at red lobster because one has celiac's disease and Red Lobster has great gluten free options.( go figure ) They were shocked to learn it was my first time ever.
Since then I have been back quite a bit. We do frequent the Kenwood location ,even when there are other closer ,because the service there is unmatched. I am in love with their biscuits and caesar salad. If I'm with the girls its Lobster-ritas for the table, and if I'm with my seafood cautious boyfriend, its lobster pizza.
Their new bruschetta is a refreshing take on a familiar appetizer and something that I must recommend .
In short, I am a newby to the red lobster predilection, but each time i am pleasantly surprised and always satisfied.

  5. I don't typically eat at Red Lobster, but I do have a huge weak spot for the biscuits. I don't have a "go to" item there, but I'll usually try a special for the day or some sort of pasta dish.

  8. Oh man! I could eat a meal of just their biscuits also & no, bisquick is not the same. The jambalaya looks yummmy although these places never seem to make it spicy enough, but I'd love a GC to find out.

  10. I am a newbie to the Red Lobster scene too, like Alexandrea... I'm 29 and went there for the first time less than 6 months ago with my boyfriend. We started off with a shrimp brushetta which was excellent and I had a half portion of the Chef's Signature Lobster and Shrimp Pasta. I thought it was excellent. I am not crazy about lobster but with the fresh crab and asperagus with that butter white wine sauce and fresh tomatoes, I fell in love!

I would say the rolls are alright, but then I am not one for rolls and/or bread that much anyway. I don't remember what my bf had that day, but I remember thinking it was a little spicy so I am thinking it was some cajun fish.

We have been back once since. We skipped the appetizer this time and I chose the exact same meal, but this time I got the full portion so I could take some leftovers home with me.

My bf got the Lobster and Bourbon shrimp and Scallops. I agree that the corn was the best part of the dish. Like I said earlier, I don't care for lobster, so I am not one to judge that part. The shrimp were plain as day and the scallops were too sweet with that sauce. The bacon around it was overcooked and the mashed potatoes tasted like they were out of a box. I am glad I stuck with my usual but I am interested in trying something new!

  11. I haven't been to Red Lobster in eleven years...it was the one in Springfield, Ohio.

The memory of our visit was pretty vivid, mainly because, in passing, my mother revealed to us that we had another brother: an older brother who was a cop. Talk about awkward! So who knows: maybe next time I go we'll learn about more siblings!

  12. I sometimes order the lobster pizza, I think it has the same garlic butter seasoning as the biscuits, yum! I don't always order the same thing, but I like the combo type dinners, where I can get little shrimp, maybe some crab or scallops, and how can I say no to some lobster...YUM! Oh yeah, and I like to get a bloody mary too ;)

  14. I always try to go with someone on a diet so I can have more of the biscuits for myself! Then I usually get the snow crab legs because it reminds me the most of the real seafood I grew up with in Maine. We never had lobster any other way than boiled and dipped in real butter! Grilled? Not for me!

  15. I am the only girl in the world who doesn't care for the biscuits there? LOL. I'm just not a bread person.

HOwever it makes me popular with those I go with. I like plain food. I always get the dry baked potato with popcorn shrimp.

They do a great baked potato with sea salt and oil. Its really good, you can even eat the skin. The popcorn shrimp is a great alternative for those who aren't huge seafood eaters. Crunchy not mushy and I put ketchup on them. :) Yeah, ketchup.

But if you aren't a fish person, the baked potato is a wonderful option and well done. If you like fast food shrimp (batter crunch) get the popcorn shrimp.

Oh and they serve IBC Root Beer, cold in the bottle. Whoo hoo!

  17. I like Red Lobster quite a bit! You're right, those biscuits are to die for. Except for all the fish decor... what's up with that? A bit morbid if you ask me :)

I always get the pick two with salmon and shrimp scampi! Delicious!

Love your blog. Would love a gift card! lauracsinclair at gmail dot com
