Food Hussy Restaurant Review: Shapiro's Delicatessen - Blue Ash

I'm getting into a bit of a restaurant rut now that I'm in Blue Ash every day. There are some places that are just super convenient - Crazy Bowls has online ordering and is just downstairs, Jersey Mikes is super quick, Brueggers is across the street, Penn Station is just 2 min away and is - well - PENN STATION! But I finally tried another place just steps from our office doors...

Shapiro's Delicatessen! It's actually a 100+ year old staple in Indianapolis that opened in Blue Ash in June 2017. Their meats are slow-cooked in house and they have a wide variety of options across sandwiches, desserts, sides, salads and soups.

I was there for a take-out lunch - but they also have a large buffet and it was very busy. With baked chicken, meatloaf and the like on the buffet - you can also find Jewish dishes like Matzo Ball Soup.

I had to try a Reuben of course - but the Reuben Sandwich was $14+ which seemed like a lot for a sandwich. They did have a wrap for just $8 so I decided to try that instead. I also asked for it to be grilled. The wrap was HUGE and packed full of house-made corned beef, red cabbage, German Swiss cheese, Russian dressing and rye croutons.

This was a really good wrap - it was super filling and toasty warm. It was a nice day outside so rather than go inside I found a step near Kenwood Rd and just sat outside and enjoyed my wrap while traffic whizzed by me. The wrap was also served with a nice tart pickle.

I also ordered a side of Macaroni & Cheese ($2.65) and it wasn't good. You can see the top was completely burnt and inedible. The inside wasn't much better - it was clumpy and gloppy - I just didn't care for it. I'm pretty much mac & cheese obsessed - and I took a couple bites and pitched it.

Why Should You Go? I think the sandwiches and baked goods are probably really good. The house-made corned beef was very tasty. I just think the price was too high for lunch.
