Restaurant Review: Sleepy Bee - Blue Ash

I love trying new restaurants and the ones that everybody brags about - but even the Food Hussy gets in a rut! I mean - I live in Milford - I'm out there! I've worked downtown for years! But recently - we made the move to Blue Ash for work - so it's given me a lot of new places to eat!

One of those is Sleepy Bee - it's right across the street from my office - so I can walk there and they're all about locally-sourced and fairly healthy options - so it seemed like a great place to meet up with friends.

Local Pasture-Raised Beef Burger - 6 oz grass-fed beef with lettuce, tomato, onion and house-made special nectar sauce on a local brioche bun - plus herbed goat cheese - $12.50

One friend tried the burger and seemed happy enough with it. I have some history with Certified Angus Beef - so I'm not a big proponent of grass-fed beef. All cows eat grass - some just get fed grain at the end because grain adds flavor. But hey - to each his own.

Avi Omelet - fresh avocado, spinach, mushrooms, tomato, onions and white cheddar served with multi-grain toast and a side - $10.95 (side: smashed red skin potatoes with honey garlic sauce)

I couldn't decide between breakfast and lunch and ended up with breakfast. Were the ingredients fresh? Yes for sure. That said - I just didn't love it. It was a very flat dish - it was crying out for acidity or a sauce. I guess it's their most popular omelet but I didn't love it.

Vegan Portobello Panini - vegan garlic aioli, sourdough bread, chimichurri marinated portobello mushrooms, pickled golden raisins, vegan special sauce, two slices of tomato and romaine lettuce - $11.50 (side: roasted sweet potatoes)

On a return visit - I decided to go for the lunch menu. I think that was part of the problem with it for me - nothing really jumped out at me. Everything sounded fine - but nothing was like OMG I GOTTA HAVE THAT!

The sandwich was fine - I didn't think of it as a panini - it wasn't pressed. And again - it was underseasoned and plain. All in all - just not much flavor. The side of sweet potatoes was screaming for anything- they literally were just plain roasted - I swear - there wasn't even salt on them.

Why Should You Go? Well - I know people rave about it - I mean RAVE - but I just didn't love it. Maybe I haven't tried the right thing yet. I've been twice and it's not cheap - so I'm not rushing to go back anytime soon.

Am I missing something? What's your favorite dish?
