Restaurant Review: Rudino’s Pizza & Grinders – Montgomery

March 21, 2018 · FoodHussy · Leave a Comment

My girl Rachel and I decided to grab a bite to eat after work and before we did a craft class at Brush + Board in Montgomery and that gave me a perfect excuse to try out Rudino’s Pizza + Grinders! I’ve driven by it for years but just never been hungry at the right time – so finally here we were!

Inside – I’m about 99% sure that we were the ONLY people that were not from Montgomery in the place. It’s very much a “Cheers” type of bar – everybody knew everybody. It even turns out my boss’ kid works there – it’s just that kind of place.

They’re known for their Grinder sandwiches – which had me excited. I remember back to an Italian place in Des Moines that was REALLY authentic and had the best food I’ve ever had in my life. They served a Guinea Grinder (yes – they called it that) – it was this delicious boat of fresh baked bread with a mix of Italian sausage, hamburger and seasonings – topped with cheese and baked until it all melted together in a bite of melt in your mouth seduction. It was that good. I was hoping I would find something like that here…or not.

Here we had a Pizza Grinder – which is just a sub ($8.49) – she got wheat bread, red sauce, pepperoni and a mozzarella/provolone blend.

I got the Traditional Grinder ($8.49) with ham, cheese and toppings on white. It was fine – not the best sandwich I’ve ever had – everything tasted fresh – it just didn’t have much flavor and didn’t grab me. Meh.

I upgraded to bacon cheese fries ($3.49) from chips and, not surprisingly, these were the highlight of the night. A cup of ranch and I was content.

Why Should You Go? Well I definitely wouldn’t go out of the way to head to Rudino’s but if you’re in the area – it’s a good option. They also have pizza, wraps, calzones, wings, salads and a bunch more Grinders.
