Dutch Oven Apple Crisp

Dutch Oven Apple Crisp is comfort food at its best! Warm, cinnamon apples coated with crunchy sweet oat topping! Making this in the Dutch Oven just melts those apples into a puddle of yum!

Ingredients
  

  • 4 cups granny smith apples 3 apples, peeled, cored, sliced
  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 1 tbsp flour
  • 1 tsp cinnamon

Crisp Topping

  • 1/2 cup old fashioned oats
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup cold butter

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350º and spray cast iron Dutch oven with non-stick cooking spray
  • Clean, peel, and slice apples and place in a large bowl.
    4 cups granny smith apples
  • Add in granulated sugar, cinnamon and 1 tbsp flour. Toss and make sure all apples are coated.
    3/4 cup white sugar, 1 tbsp flour, 1 tsp cinnamon
  • Pour apple mixture into Dutch oven and give an extra sprinkle of cinnamon over the apples.
  • In a small bowl, mix oats, brown sugar and flour. Stir to combine.
    1/2 cup old fashioned oats, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/3 cup flour, 1/4 cup cold butter
  • Dice cold butter in and add to small bowl. Use hands to mix butter into flour mixture until crumbly. Use your fingers to mush the butter into the mix. It will take 2-3 minutes.
  • Sprinkle topping over apples in an even layer.
  • Place in preheated oven and bake for 30-40 min
  • Check the crisp at 30 min - if you see any dry floury spots - lay a thin slice of butter on top of spots and bake 10 more minutes.
  • Spoon into bowls and serve with vanilla ice cream!
