Hasselback Apples

Hasselback Apples

Hasselback Apples are a dessert that is not only easy - but delicious!!!! It turns out to be sort of like a crustless apple pie – all the goodness of the filling with no crust! I can’t say the recipe is light by any means – but it’s really not too bad! There’s a little butter and a little sugar – but that’s about it.

Ingredients

  • 2 apples halved vertically and cored
  • 4 tbsp butter melted
  • 3 Tbsp sugar plus more for sprinkling
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/3 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • Vanilla ice cream for serving
  • Praline Sauce for drizzling

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 and line a baking sheet or baking dish with parchment paper or aluminum foil
  • Peel the apples and slice in half vertically. Core the apples.
    2 apples
  • Place each apple half cut-side down and use a paring knife to create thin slices along the arch of the apple. Do not slice all the way through – just shallow slices that will create small spaces for the sugar mixture to seep into
  • Place apples to baking sheet
  • Melt butter and brush apple with a little bit of the butter and sprinkle with sugar - then repeat with remaining apple halves
    4 tbsp butter
  • Bake until apples are soft and carmelized, 30 minutes
  • Remove from oven. In a small bowl, combine remaining melted butter, sugar, cinnamon and oats.
3 Tbsp sugar, 1 tbsp ground cinnamon, 1/3 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • Smother apples with 1/4 of the sugar/oat mixture
  • Return to oven and bake 15 minutes more
  • Remove from oven and top each with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and – if you have it or something similar – drizzle a few tablespoons of Caramel sauce and serve!
    Vanilla ice cream, Praline Sauce
