Deweys - We know it and love it...

Doesn't that look delicious? I mean - man - who couldn't eat a whole damn Dewey's pizza right now?!!! I decided that it's almost a place that doesn't need to be reviewed - I mean - who DOESN'T know that Dewey's is amazing?! But then I am reminded that this week was my 5 year anniversary of living in the 'Nati!

Yes - 5 years ago - Cincinnati was subjected to - I mean - GRACED with my presence! The Food Hussy was born!

So this blog might be for the unborn Food Hussy Jr. - the budding foodie that's waiting in the wings to try and dethrone the hussy! (Yeah right - like that could happen!)

We had to start with the Dewey's house salad. Here's their description:

A mix of Field Greens and Romaine Lettuce,
toasted Pine Nuts, Sun-Dried Cranberries and
Goat Cheese tossed with Dewey’s own House
Dressing (Balsamic Vinaigrette)

It's really my favorite - I love it so much that I'm now addicted to craisins and goat cheese. Damn you Dewey's!!!!

Scott and I decided to do a half-and-half. First half - Bronx Bomber - [Red Sauce, Mozzarella Cheese, Pepperoni, Sausage, Mushrooms, Onions, Green Peppers, Black Olives]. The toppings are fresh, the taste is great, always light on the sauce and amazing crust. The crust is so light and fluffy and golden and just mm mm good!

The other half - Edgar Allan Poe - [Olive Oil, Mozzarella-Fontina Blend, Mushrooms,
Roasted Garlic, Kalamata Olives and Goat Cheese, with Fresh Tomatoes and Parsley after the bake]. Again - just great pizza. The garlic was maybe a little under done...and it could have had a little more goat cheese - but all in all - good.

I liked this half better and Scott liked the other half better - luckily - those were each of our choices!

This visit was my first to the Clifton location...I don't enjoy it as much as some of the others. Newport & Oakley are my favorite.

So any Dewey's favorites for the internet world out there? I've heard rumblings of a secret pizza not on the menu - the Dr. Dre?! I'm a huge Eminem/Dr Dre fan - so I must try this next time!!!

There are 6 Dewey's locations in the tri-state area...check em out!

Dewey's Pizza on Urbanspoon

  1. Dewey's is completey addictive and my absolute favorite pizza. I can't remember the name of my last order but it was all mushrooms and surprisingly wonderful.

  2. dr dre is really good an i like bbq chicken. enjoy your blog. thanks

  3. My only knock against them is that it is only good at the restaurant. It doesn't work as well with carryout and the pizza isn't as good second day. It is like the transcendence must be consume directly from the oven (which to be honest isn't much of a struggle since they have a fun atmosphere and a good beer selection).

  4. What's on the Dr Dre? Colt 45 and joints?

  5. green lantern. green lantern. green lantern. or on a crazy day, the hawaiian.

i agree it is not as pretty the morning after.

  6. I love Deweys.

The key to enjoying Dewey leftovers is two things.

First, the thing that is so wonderful about veggies at Dew's is that they are still crunchy/fresh on their pizzas. Unfortuantely, this translates to limp the day after. I peel off my green peppers on the second day. Any crunch veggie has to go on the re-eat.

Second, you have to reheat in an OVEN. Not a microwave, not cold.

It's not as good as the first time but it's pretty edible and I hate leftover pizza.

  7. VERY good pizza, really the only place to get a good za in Newport. The beers on tap are also good and they change frequently.

ps- to the hussy, love your site. Very informative and I check here first before going to a new place. Usually you are very "spot-On" !

(+ the anonymous posting is a nice feature that allows many of us to chime in, where otherwise we would not; if we were forced to join or be a member - thanks again!)

  8. Dre: mozzarella, green peppers, red onions, chicken, bacon, jalapenos and ranch and tomatoes on after it comes out of the oven. DELICIOUS!!!!

Not to sound like a certain fanatical pizza lover from a certain Empire state who posts regularly on a site devoted to food that can be found whilst traveling on the road (as it were), but... while Dewey's is certainly good (though the red sauce is decidedly lacklustre in flavor), the best, absolute BEST Neapolitan/New York style pizza to be found in southwest Ohio is in a little hole-in-the-wall place by the name of Troni's, in Kettering. Eating one of their cheese pies is a damned religious experience. Plus, their pizzas are a fraction of the cost of a Dewey's pie.

  10. Wondering why no one talked about my favorite pizza - the Ryan's Inferno! ... Olive Oil, Light Mozzarella Cheese, Buffalo Chicken,
Gorgonzola Cheese, Red Onion with Ranch Dressing and Celery after the Bake ... what's not to like?

  11. Have tried the Green Lantern (fave), Wild Mushroom, Killer Veggie, Caprice, X-Pepperoni, Socrates' Revenge, Edgar Allan Poe (fave) and Ryan's Inferno (surprisingly good). Love all their pizza, beer on tap and salad (Try the Greek, excellent). It's a little spendy if you get pizza ($20+ for large), salad ($8 for full) and beer, but the quality of the food, the staff and atmosphere are worth it. We always take out of town guest here.

I'm excited to try Troni's now from the above recommendation! We have Marion's and Donato's by our house and find them both (gasp!) mediocre.
