What You Will ❤️ About Aldi Charcuterie Board

  • Affordable!!! I priced out charcuterie boards and some folks wanted $300 for one board. I was able to get all of these supplies for 2 boards for about $75 at Aldi!
  • Extras!! Some of the items like meat and cheese you need to use in short order, but other pantry items like nuts, crackers and olives – you’ll have extra of those for future boards!
  • Versatile! Whether you’re having a game day party, need an easy appetizer for a group dinner or just want a fun snackable dinner – charcuterie boards are great for lots of occasions!

Aldi Charcutierie Board Ingredients

Creating a charcuterie board for the first time can be a little intimidating – but do it once and you’re an instant pro! It really helps to have everything laid out and ready to go and then let your creativity flow! I’ll help you along – I promise!

Some folks have a rule of 3’s when building a board – have 3 options in each of the main categories! Here are those categories:

  • Crackers
  • Meats
  • Cheeses
  • Vegetables, Fruits & Nuts
  • Spreads & Dips

I do recommend prepping and opening everything before you begin – then it’s just grab and go! Keep the design going. Let’s dive deeper into what Aldi offers for each category:

Crackers

Aldi has a great cracker selection – these are the choices I made but they also have Ritz and Triscuit dupes as well as Brown Rice crackers. So many options!!!

How many kinds should I have? I like to have 2-3 different kinds of crackers for folks to choose from on each board.

  • Savoritz 6 Cracker Assortment – This is a great multipack if you’re doing multiple boards. You could probably do 3-4 boards with this box!
  • Savoritz Pita Crackers – Sea Salt or Garlic & Chive – you might want to stick with the sea salt because your meats & cheeses may have flavor that competes with the crackers
  • Savoritz Crackers – these come in original, wheat and garden vegetable – I love the large size of these and they’re perfect for one board
  • Pretzel Slims – these come in plain and everything – they’re a great crunchy pretzel texture

You could also use a baguette from the bakery department and cut thin slices to top with meats and cheeses.

Meats

In addition to these, Appleton Farms also has Spicy and Original Dry Salami or Simms Hard Salami. I tend to like the softer meats.

  • Appleton Farms Prosciutto – Prosciutto is a cured ham and it’s sliced very thing. This is a pricier selection but it’s very rich. It almost tastes like cheese. You can also tear the slices in half along the fat line and then just fluff the pieces. They don’t really “fold” – so I just fluff it.
    • Side Note: Wrap a wedge of fresh pear in a slice of prosciutto for an amazing sweet & salty treat!
  • Lunch Mate Hard Salami – This is great because you can fold and cut to double the portions. (see Taco the Meat below)
  • Appleton Farms Deli Selection – You’ll find a variety of premium meats like salami, hot capocollo, pepper salami & soprasetta

Taco the Meat!

Displaying your meats in different ways adds visual interest to the board and helps guests be able to pick up a slice at a time. Here’s a tip for large round pieces like salami:

  • Fold round pieces of deli meat like a taco
  • Stack the slices – alternating the direction
  • Using kitchen shears, cut stack in half
  • Rotate so all cut sides are down
  • Stack in board

Cheeses

Cheeses are essential to your charcuterie board – but where do you start? I like to have a nice mix of cheeses that are sharp, mild, soft and hard cheeses – then there’s something for everyone!

Foodies know that Aldi has the BEST selection of cheese in town – so there are so many options here! Here’s what I chose:

  • Hard & Sharp – Emporium Balsamic Onion White Cheddar Cheese – this has a sharp flavor and is a harder cheese
  • Hard & Mild – Gouda Cracker Cuts – these are pre-cut which is a time-saver! Gouda is a fairly mild cheese but still holds up easily on a cracker.
  • Medium – Emporium Dill Havarti – Havarti is a favorite cheese of mine – nice and smooth with a little bit of fun flavor from the dill.
  • Soft & Sharp – Everything Goat Cheese – Everything seasoning is strong so it pairs nicely with a soft cheese like goat cheese. Aldi has a lot of flavored goat cheese and I love them all. This is nice because you can crumble it and leave a little cheese knife with it – then folks can scoop and spread a little on a cracker.
  • Soft & Mild – Emporium Double Creme Brie Cheese – There’s nothing like a Brie! It’s so soft and smooth. I even got my kid Alysa hooked on it now! Crackers, raspberry jam and brie is her new favorite!

This doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface of the cheeses they have to offer but hopefully it gives you some ideas.

Grab-n-Go Cheese Stacks

Cheese can stick together – so it helps to pull apart slices before you set on the board so it’s easier for guests. Here’s an easy idea for displaying your cheese:

  • Hold cheese slice in hand
  • Lay 2nd slice in middle of 1st
  • Alternate slices
  • Stack cheese on boards

Vegetables, Fruits, Nuts, Spreads & Dips

Veggies, Fruits & Nuts are a great way to fill in the white space between your crackers, meat and cheeses. Think along the lines of easy to pick up options here like grapes and almonds.

  • Grapes & Berries – Grapes are essential – they’re big, grabbable and cheap! If you’re feeling fancy, grab strawberries, raspberries or blackberries!
  • Cherry Tomatoes – I haven’t seen these on many boards but I thought it made perfect sense. You put tomatoes on sandwiches – why not have them with meat and cheese?!
  • Olives – Another no-brainer! Aldi has these great jumbo stuffed green olives that I love! They have green olives stuffed with blue cheese, garlic or jalapeno in the Specially Selective brand. You can also get kalamata olives if you’re going for a more Mediterranean board!
  • Southern Grove Almonds, Pistachios, Cashews – Again – so many options. The in-shell pistachios are kind of fun because of their look – but almonds are always a hit.
  • Chocolates – You can also add in some chocolate covered fruits or nuts for a little touch of sweetness.

Spreads & Dips are a nice addition to boards but not essential. I like the variety in texture that they bring to the board.

  • Raspberry Fruit Spread – Aldi was a little thin on options this trip for a fruit spread – but this raspberry turned out to be a perfect and delicious option. Sometimes they’ll have fruit & honey brands as well.
  • Hummus – I absolutely love hummus and you can dip the cracker or spread it. Red Pepper Hummus is my favorite – but they also have classic and garlic.
  • Ranch Dressing – a little cup of ranch is always good but they also have dips like Tzatziki, Spinach and Dill dip.

How to Put Together a Charcuterie Board

You can make the perfect charcuterie board in four steps! Once you have everything set out, opened and sliced – you’re ready to go!

  • Start with dips and crackers
  • Place your dips & spreads in small cups on board – well separated
  • Add small stacks and piles of crackers around board – leaving space between them
  • Add your meats and cheeses
  • Alternate and try not to have any two categories next to each other – separate crackers with meat and cheese, separate cheese with meat and crackers, etc
  • Use a variety of displays for your meats & cheeses: folded meat, fluffed meat (prosciutto – bottom left corner), laid cheese, alt stack cheese, crumbled cheeses
  • Fill in the big gaps with large fruits like grapes and cherry tomatoes
  • Fill in the final gaps with olives, nuts, chocolate, leftover cheese and meat

Charcuterie Theme Ideas

  • Affordable & Kid Friendly – cut the price back and make a more simple charcuterie board by using deli ham & turkey, American & Cheddar Cheeses – this would be great for a kids party!
  • Valentines Day Board – Use heart shaped cookie cutters for your cheeses and add heart shaped chocolates
  • Christmas Board – Sprinkle in peppermint coated pretzels and Christmas cookies to create a charcuterie board perfect for the holiday season.

Supplies you need for an ALDI cheese board

  • Board or tray: I found the large round tray at Marshall’s and the rectangle tray is from Walmart.com. Here’s a nice combo of the two – a rectangle tray with handles!
  • Mini Ramekins: Little dishes like Stainless Steel or Porcelain ramekins are great for holding the dips!
  • Small Cutlery: A set of cheese cutlery are helpful for cheeses and dips!
  • Toothpicks: A little dish next to the board for people to pick up cubed cheese or fruits if they like.
  • Cheese markers: My peeps aren’t too particular but if you have folks that might want to know what they’re eating – you can use little cheese markers and write the names on them.

Tips, Tricks & FAQs

How do you transport a charcuterie board?

Glad Press-n-Seal is your best friend here. Cover with 2-3 layers to be safe. Store in the refrigerator until ready to serve or head to your party!

What do you do with leftovers?

Use small baggies or storage containers for any leftovers and store in the fridge. Or make mini charcuterie boxes for lunch the next couple of days!

How many boards do you need to feed 10 people?

Well – that’s a tough question – it depends! For the baby shower – we had a lot of other food items and I took the two rectangular boards and they were about 75% eaten with 40 people. For Christmas, I took one board for about 10 people. This was the only appetizer and we pretty much ate about 75% as well.
