Blackstone Philly Cheese Steaks are my new favorite recipe! It’s just like getting one at my favorite restaurant – but I can make it myself in 15 minutes! And have it just the way I like it – loaded with onions, mushrooms and cheese on a toasted bun!

What You Will ❤️ About Philly Cheesesteaks on your Blackstone Grill
- Quick! Everything on the Blackstone griddle is quick but this is done in less than 15 minutes! Prep time is only as long as it takes you to chop the onions & mushrooms!
- DEEEEEEE-licious! I share a lot of my leftovers with my friend Rhonda – she declared this her favorite recipe that I’ve ever made for her!
- Have it Your Way! I love making these at home so everybody can have them how they like – mushrooms, no mushrooms, Cheez-Whiz or provolone – you decide!

Ingredients for Blackstone Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich
What do you have on your Philly? We have a chain here in Ohio that serves them and my standard order is beef, x cheese, x mushrooms, x mayo! Be sure to comment and tell me YOUR favorite way to have a Philly Cheese Steak!
- Shaved Steak – this is pretty easy to find in most grocery stores now – it’s very thinly sliced steak and trust me – it’s just much easier to buy it than try and slice it yourself!
- Yellow Onions – these are a must-have when making a Philly! You can also use white onions but they’re not as sweet.
- Mushrooms – I’m a mushroom lover and did a poll in my Blackstone Facebook group and mushrooms were a close second to onions
- Seasoning Salt – Just a shake of Lawry’s is all you need to get the flavor spot on!
- Sub Rolls – These are more preference and selection – I was only able to find the mini-sub rolls but frankly they were plenty big enough for a loaded up delicious sandwich! Any hoagie rolls will do!
- Provolone Cheese or Cheez-Whiz – This is the never-ending debate!!! In Philadelphia – it’s gotta be Cheez-Whiz – but everywhere else says Provolone! You could also use American cheese. It’s your personal preference.

Recipe Variations
Everybody likes to mix it up a bit when it comes to their sandwiches – here are a few ideas of how to change up your Blackstone Philly Cheesesteak…
- Chicken – swap the shaved steak for grilled chicken strips!
- More Veggies – a close 3rd on the topping list was green bell peppers – you could easily throw those on the Blackstone with your onions and mushrooms!
- Teriyaki – a very popular sandwich is also the Chicken Teriyaki – most of the same components – but use chicken and some teriyaki sauce on the meat!
- Low Carb – low carb it and eat your sammich in a lettuce wrap!

How to make Blackstone Philly Cheesesteak Recipe
These are super easy to make on the Blackstone – especially if you’re not having to take pictures along the way!!! And just for research sake – I made half with provolone and half with Cheez Whiz!
- Open sub rolls and lightly butter in the inside of the rolls and set aside.
- Heat griddle to medium high heat, add 2 tbsp oil. When hot, add mushrooms and onions and saute for 3-4 minutes until soft. Season with a couple of shakes of Lawry’s. Move to the side once softened.
- Turn heat up to high and add sliced steak in a thin layer across the griddle. Sprinkle with seasoning salt. Fry for 2-3 minutes. As it cooks – use your metal spatulas to chop the sliced steak. You want it to sear and it will cook very quickly.
- Turn down to medium heat and add onions and mushrooms to steak mixture and chop to combine.
- Place opened rolls face down on griddle to toast them.
- Separate meat mixture into four smaller rectangle-shaped piles. Lay two slices of provolone cheese across each pile. Cover with griddle steamer dome for 2 minutes. If using Cheese Whiz, spoon into the meat and mix with spatulas.
- Once Cheese melts, turn toasted hoagie rolls over onto a platter. Use spatula to move meat & cheese to each of the rolls and serve!

Tips, Tricks & FAQs
Store leftover meat mixture in an airtight container (I like these glass ones) in the refrigerator for up to a week. Reheat in the microwave for 1-2 minutes. Or if you have sandwiches made up – wrap in foil or store in a ziploc. Air fry at 300
Yes – you can put the meat in an air tight container and keep in the freezer for up to a month. Thaw and reheat in the microwave. (But I doubt you’ll have many leftovers!)
It’s usually a mix of whatever the butcher shop has – sirloin most days – ribeye steak on a good day!
A mix of garlic powder, salt, pepper and paprika would be good!
