I guess Gordon might know what he’s doing…because this Gordon Ramsay Sausage Rice is now in my regular rotation for dinner! It is a simple recipe – loaded with sausage, peppers, onions, rice & more! The layers of flavors were perfect in this easy midweek meal!

What You Will ❤️ About Gordon’s Sausage Rice
Gordon Ramsay shared this recipe on his YouTube channel – but who has the time to take notes from a YouTube video! I’ve got it all here for you!
- One Pan Meal – I mean nobody wants to do dishes and this one only has 1!
- 30 Minute Meal – Once everything is chopped, this sausage rice only took about 25 minutes to cook
- Gobbled Up – I took this to a potluck and people were raving about it! Sausage, peppers, onions and rice combine to make a delicious comfort food meal!

Gordon Ramsay’s Sausage Rice Ingredients
Simple ingredients – I’m kicking myself for not trying to make something like this myself! And be sure to use SMOKED paprika – it’s 100% worth the price of admission!!!
- Red onion – most of the time red onion is used cold but they have a great bite and soften up like yellow onions
- Red bell pepper – you could use any color bell pepper – I would say orange or yellow would be the best substitutes
- Garlic cloves – Gordon would NOT approve of jarred garlic!!! Be sure to use fresh cloves!
- Italian sausages – Gordon used spicy Italian sausage – but I chose mild Italian sausage because I’m not a spicy fan. He used links and then sliced them open and removed the casings but you could use bulk Italian sausage as well.
- Basmati Rice – you can also use long-grain rice (white)
- Smoked paprika – to make paprika, red bell peppers are air dried and then ground into a powder – but smoked is dried over smoke instead of air – and man is it amazing – it’s the secret ingredient to this dish! Gordon Ramsay uses La Chinata Brand Paprika.
- White wine – dry white wine is recommended like a Sauvignon Blanc or Chardonnay – I used a mini bottle of Chardonnay because I don’t drink wine – I always keep red & white on hand for cooking! You could swap out chicken broth if you don’t have any wine.
- Chicken broth – I keep the cartons of chicken broth on hand as well – always needing them for a recipe! You can also use chicken stock.
- Green onions – 1/2 bunch will do for this! adds a nice texture. These are also known as spring onions or scallions.
- Tomato – I would recommend a whole tomato vs cherry tomatoes – but they would work if that’s what you have
- Flat leaf parsley – I was out of parsley so I used cilantro and it was still delicious!!!!

Recipe Variations
This recipe is pretty much perfection – like it tastes so good I hate to think about changing a thing! But you could – and here are some ideas:
- Spicy Sausage Rice – Use Spicy Italian Sausage to make this exactly like gordon’s spicy sausage rice
- More Veggies – I was DYING to put mushrooms in this! Even finely diced carrots would be tasty as well!
- Smoked Sausage – not a fan of pork sausage? You could also use sliced smoked sausage in a pinch or even hamburger.
- Cheese – sprinkle on mozzarella cheese at the end

How to make Sausage Rice like Gordon Ramsay
I love this one-pot recipe – it’s easy enough to make as well for a beginner! You just need one large high-side skillet – I have the ones that Gordon recommends even!
- Slice the sausage links lengthwise and remove the casing on the sausage. Discard sausage skins and repeat with the remaining sausage links.
- Turn the heat to medium high on your stove and heat a deep dish saute pan (you could also use a Dutch oven).
- Add olive oil to skillet over medium-high heat. Add in red onions and fry them for about 5-6 minutes, until they’ve softened.
- Add red peppers to the onions and stir.
- Add garlic and stir for 30 seconds.
- Turn up the heat on your stove to high and push onions and peppers to the sides of the pan.
- Crumble the sausages into small pieces and add to center of the pan. Stir and combine until the sausage is browned.

8. Add in the paprika and mix to combine. Pour in uncooked rice and stir for about 30 seconds to help the rice absorb the pan flavors.
9. Pour in white wine in to deglaze the pan and scrape any bits off the bottom of the pan.
10. Pour the broth in and bring pan up to a boil. Once it comes to a boil, turn heat down to medium low and let simmer for about 12-15 minutes. Stirring occasionally and monitoring liquid in pan.
11. Check the dish, the rice should be completely cooked and the liquid should be almost completely absorbed. Taste your rice – if it’s not quite done – add a little more chicken broth and let it go a little more. Mine needed another 1/2 cup and a few more minutes.
12. Remove the pan from the heat and add the tomatoes and green onions in. Sprinkle on flat leaf parsley and serve!

Tips, Tricks & FAQs
Store leftovers in an airtight container (I like these glass ones) in the refrigerator for up to a week. You can freeze up to three months. Reheat small portions in the microwave for 1 minute. If you have a larger portion, you can reheat in a skillet or in the oven at 350º. You will likely want to add a little chicken broth for reheating larger portions.

the rice was way undercooked. Followed the recipe to a tee. Not good at all
Did you see this in the recipe:
Taste your rice โ if itโs not quite done โ add a little more chicken broth and let it go a little more. Mine needed another 1/2 cup and a few more minutes.
There’s no way rice wasn’t cooked in 15-20 minutes.
And if you didn’t taste it and cook it longer as directed – then I’m not sure how I can help. It’s very dependent on which style of rice you use as to the cooking time.
I followed it exactly except for one thing: I cooked the rice for 20 minutes and then let it rest for 10.
It turned out great and tasted delicious – the whole family loved it and that is saying something!! Thank you for sharing
Have made this several times following the recipe. Definitely a favourite!
GR sausage and rice was delicious, and I also added a little more chicken broth for the rice. Served it with some Italian garlic breadโฆMmmmm
