Texas Roadhouse Baked Potatoes

🔍 COPYCAT SECRETS UNCOVERED!

Restaurant-style baked potatoes aren’t too much of a mystery but it’s also not the way I was taught to make baked potatoes growing up! I was taught to poke the holes and wrap in foil – but that doesn’t give you that crispy potato skin! The secret ingredient to the Texas Roadhouse crispy potato skin is BACON FAT instead of oil!!! Second – bake on the rack – no foil!

Ingredients for Texas Roadhouse Baked Potatoes

This is so simple – but it makes all the difference – mainly in the skin of the potato. This – along with HOW you bake – will give you that crispy salt skin that Texas Roadhouse has (but still fluffy on the inside)!

  • Russet Potatoes – try and find baking potatoes that are similar in size so they bake in the about the same amount of time
  • Bacon Fat – you can save bacon fat from a couple of times of making bacon – or buy Bacon Up. Bacon Up is a rendered bacon grease – so it’s sort of “cleaned up” bacon grease.
    • You can also use olive oil, vegetable oil or butter.
  • Coarse Kosher Salt – you definitely don’t want to use table salt for this – coarse salt has that chunky texture to mimic the restaurants
Seafood Stuffed Potatoes

Ways to Serve Baked Potatoes

  • Butter & Sour Cream
  • Loaded – add cheddar cheese & bacon
  • Chili Topped – add Texas Roadhouse chili, cheese and onions on top
  • Seafood Stuffed – go wild and crazy with a spicy cream sauce, shrimp & crab!
HOW TO MAKE TEXAS ROADHOUSE BAKED POTATO

How to make Texas Roadhouse Baked Potatoes

These restaurant-style baked potatoes are going to be the only way you make potatoes! You don’t need a baking sheet, you don’t need foil – just potatoes, bacon fat & coarse salt! Let’s do it!

  1. WASH the potatoes and pat dry with paper towel.
  2. POKE potato a few times with a paring knife.
  3. RUB bacon fat over the entire potato and cover all sides with coarse sea salt.
    • You can use a knife like you’re “buttering” the potato or melt the bacon fat and pour it on and rub it all over the potatoes.
  4. PLACE the potatoes into the oven directly on the rack for about 60 minutes, or until soft and fork-tender.
    • If using a solid bacon fat – you might want a drip pan on the rack below to catch any bacon fat.
  5. REMOVE and serve with butter, sour cream and a sprinkle of chives or parsley.
