Air Fryer Italian Sausage and Peppers is a super quick weeknight meal that’s ready in just 10 minutes! I like to add onions, peppers and mushrooms when I’m making this too. They all go together and taste great when I make Sausage Sandwiches!

What You Will ❤️ About Air Fryer Sausage & Peppers
- Versatile – you can transform leftovers into many a dish! Pasta, pizza, fajitas and more!
- Keto-friendly – serve over cauliflower rice like a stir fry for a Keto meal
- Quick – this dinner is done in just 10 minutes in the air fryer!

Ingredients for Italian Sausage & Peppers
Obviously – sausage + peppers – but you can add more to it! Here’s what you’ll need:
- Italian Sausage – I used Italian sausage but you could use smoked sausage. Smoked sausage is precooked so it won’t take as long to cook. You can also use hot Italian sausage if you like more spice.
- Bell Peppers – any color peppers will do – I like orange and yellow because they are sweeter. You could also add in a poblano pepper
- Onions – I love sweet onions like Vidalia for recipes like this
- Mushrooms – I’m a sucker for mushrooms so I’ll add them in every time! Leave them out if you’re not a fan.
- Seasoning Salt – I like to toss the veggies & sausage in seasoning salt just for a little extra zing! Don’t have any – use a combo of garlic powder, salt, pepper, paprika and red pepper flakes.

How to make Sausage & Peppers in the Air Fryer
- Slice peppers, onions and mushrooms
- In a large bowl, add peppers, onions, mushrooms, seasoning salt and 1 tablespoon olive oil. Toss to coat.
- Lay Italian sausage links, peppers, onions and mushrooms in the air fryer basket or on the air fryer tray.
- Air fry at 400º for 10 minutes
- You can check the temperature of your sausage with a meat thermometer. The internal temperature of the sausages should read between 155-160º.
- With tongs, remove veggies and place into buns. Top with cooked sausages and serve with your favorite brown mustard

Best Air Fryer Accessories
Here’s my ultimate list of best air fryer accessories – whether you have a basket- or oven-style! I’ve also included a price guide as well as my favorite recipes for those accessories.

What can you do with leftover sausage and peppers?
So I’m one person and I don’t need to eat FOUR sausages! So I had leftovers!
- Serve with pasta & marinara sauce and a dollop of ricotta cheese
- On a bun – toast the bun and top the veggies & sausage with provolone cheese then broil on low for 2-3 minutes to melt the cheese
- On tortillas – top with cheese & sour cream for sausage fajitas
- On a pizza – add pizza sauce and mozzarella with sausage & peppers
- Over rice – make it a stir fry by adding a little teriyaki sauce
What kind of sausage can you use?
Any kind of sausage will do for this recipe. It will take 10-12 minutes for raw sausages like pork sausage, chicken sausage or turkey sausage and 5-6 minutes for precooked sausage like smoked sausage and kielbasa.
Do you need to thaw frozen sausages before air frying?
You can air fry sausage from frozen but it will take approx 3-5 minutes longer for the sausage to thaw before cooking. You’ll want to cook for 3-5 minutes – then add your peppers and onions.
How do you store and reheat leftovers?
Store leftovers in an airtight container (I like these glass storage ones) in the refrigerator for up to a week. Reheat in the microwave for 1-2 minutes or the air fryer at 300º for 4-5 minutes.
Can you freeze leftover Italian Sausages?
You could put leftovers in the freezer – but they’re going to shrink up the more times you cook them so I would advise just making as many as you need.
