What You Will ❤️ About Fried Rice on the Blackstone Griddle
- Tasty! There’s no way around it – this easy fried rice recipe is so delicious! I encourage you to make a double batch!
- Quick! You’ll have a giant bowl of fried rice hot off the flat top grill in 20 minutes!
- Restaurant Style! Whether you like Chinese-style or Hibachi-style – you can have restaurant style fried rice with more flavor in your own backyard!

Fried Rice Ingredients
There are a few components to fried rice – you’ve got rice – veggies – stir fry sauce and garlic butter. With that – here’s what you need for this fried rice:
- Cooked White Rice – you’ll want to cook your rice the day before and refrigerate overnight so it’s dried out a little
- Carrots – I used shredded carrots as a time-savings!
- Onion – yellow onion is great for this as it’s a sweet onion
- Green Onions – diced green onions add crunch and a little zing!
- Eggs – you can’t have fried rice without scrambled eggs
- Canola Oil – this (or vegetable oil) is the best oil to use on the Blackstone – sesame oil is another good option because it has a high smoke point and a distinct flavor that goes well with fried rice
- Garlic – I use “jarlic” but you can use fresh if you like
- Butter – softened, salted butter is best for this recipe
- Lemon Juice – I try and use fresh any time I can
- Soy Sauce – a must-have for fried rice! Feel free to use low-sodium soy sauce to keep it a little healthier
- Ginger – I’m not a huge ginger fan but it’s really good in this recipe. I use ginger paste because it’s easier to use than fresh ginger and stays good longer!

Blackstone Fried Rice Recipe Variations
This recipe covers a basic fried rice recipe – but you can easily jazz it up to add protein or more veggies! Here are a few ideas:
- Hibachi Style – add zucchini, mushrooms and broccoli to the onions and carrots – other veggie ideas are frozen peas and red bell peppers
- Shrimp – butterflied raw shrimp will cook in 2-3 minutes on your Blackstone and are a great addition
- Swap Rice – I used long grain white rice but you could swap with jasmine rice or brown rice
- Meat – I did cook up a couple of pork chops with the fried rice – but you could also do steak, salmon or chicken breast to compare to your local hibachi restaurant
- Low Carb – Feel free to use cauliflower rice if you want to make this low carb

How to make Fried Rice on the Blackstone
I started with my recipe for Benihana Fried Rice and tweaked a bit based on how you cook on a Blackstone grill. It’s much hotter than a traditional skillet so food cooks quickly! You’ve also got a big surface area which is super helpful for cooking the pieces separately!
- Cook rice according to package directions
- Fluff the day-old rice with a spoon to separate the granules as much as possible. Then, store it in a shallow container or large baking dish. Refrigerate overnight so it dries out a bit. You can lightly cover with plastic wrap but don’t seal tightly.
- To make Garlic Butter: In a medium bowl, mix together softened butter and garlic and mix well. Set aside.
- To make Stir Fry Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together ginger, lemon juice and soy sauce and set aside.
- On Blackstone turn one side of griddle to medium high heat and the other side to LOW heat. Add 2 tbsp canola oil to hot side. Add onion and carrots until softened and starting to brown, about 5-7 minutes. Add half the green onion. Move veggies to cool side of the griddle.
- Lower heat to medium and add silicone ring to griddle. Add 1 tsp of garlic butter inside ring. Once melted, crack eggs into ring and lightly scramble for 2-3 minutes. Remove ring and move eggs aside to cooler side of griddle.
- Turn heat back up to medium high. Add 2 tbsp garlic butter to griddle. Add cooked rice and mix it well so it gets coated with butter. Add remaining garlic butter. Stir so that rice gets thoroughly coated in the garlic butter. Press the rice into the griddle with large spatula so it has a chance to brown and get a little crispy. This will take about 5 minutes.

8. Add in the vegetables and egg. Chop and stir until combined. Add in stir fry sauce and combine until coated – about 3-4 minutes.
9. Serve into four bowls and top with remaining green onions and soy sauce.

Tips, Tricks & FAQs
Store leftovers in an airtight container (I like these glass ones) in the refrigerator for up to a week. You can freeze up to three months. Reheat in the microwave for 1:30 minutes.
Oil & Butter! I started with oil on the veggies and then added the delicious garlic butter and had zero issues with sticking. I also seasoned my Blackstone properly to begin with – which is a big helper!

Tools Needed to Make Blackstone Fried Rice
The Blackstone is a great cooking tool – but you will need some accessories. Here are the must-haves that I used for this Blackstone fried rice recipe:
- Metal Spatulas – This is 100% necessary! I’m not at all ambidextrous – but I managed to figure out how to use both of these spatulas when making my fried rice. They were super helpful to turn the rice and to scoop and toss it. The second spatula helps to scrape off the first.
- Silicone Ring – while not completely necessary it really helps! The eggs are going to and this holds them in a bit.
- Squirt bottles – These are essential – one for water and one for vegetable oil
- Scraper – this is great for cleanup – squirt water on the griddle and scrape
- Lint free towels – I use these with the long tongs to finalize clean up!
