What You Will ❤️ About Cinnamon Sugar Puff Pastry

  • Light Texture – Puff pastry is so light and that’s what I loved about these. They were similar to a twist donut but so much lighter!
  • Perfect Sweet – I’ve gotten into a dessert habit after dinner and this cures that fix every time!
  • Easy – These are so easy to make! I had a leftover puff pastry sheet and wanted to use it and this was perfect and in the oven in minutes!

Ingredients for Puff Pastry Cinnamon Twists

You’ll only need to buy the puff pastry for this – any brand works fine. The rest of the ingredients are pantry staples! Here’s what you need:

  • 1 sheet puff pastry dough – I usually get the Pepperidge Farm brand
  • ½ cup sugar – you could use light brown sugar as well
  • 3 tablespoon melted butter
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon – I really like Saigon Cinnamon as it has a little stronger flavor and aroma

Recipe Variations

  • Crescent Roll Dough – if you can’t find puff pastry – you can use crescent roll dough sheets.
  • Apple Pie Spice – you can swap the Cinnamon with Apple Pie Spice for even more fall flavors.
  • Ice Cream Dippers – these would be great with a side of softened vanilla ice cream to dip in!

How to make Cinnamon Sugar Puff Pastry Twists

  1. Pull out your puff pastry sheets at least 15 minutes before starting so it can come to room temperature and not crack when unrolled.
  2. Preheat your oven to 400°F and line baking tray or sheet pan with parchment paper.
  3. Mix together your sugar and spices in a small bowl.
  4. Place your sheet of puff pastry on a lightly floured work surface. Using a sharp knife or a pizza cutter, slice into 18 strips. (9 squares, then cut those in half)
  5. Use a pastry brush and brush melted butter on one side of the pastry slices.
  6. Layer on the cinnamon-sugar mixture and press it into the butter.
  7. Flip all the slices and repeat with butter and sprinkle the sugar mixture.
  8. Hold each end of one strip and twist. Place on your parchment paper and then repeat.
  9. Place baking sheet into preheated oven and bake for 14-15 minutes until a light golden brown.

Tips, Tricks & FAQs

Does puff pastry need to be cold before baking?

Not necessarily – I think it will puff a little more but for this recipe – you want it to be room temperature so it’s easier to work with.

Can you make these in the air fryer?

Yes – you can also make them in the Air fryer at 400º for 7 min. The texture is different – they are much puffier and the outside is crunchier. I would say only do this if you’re eating them right away as they don’t reheat well. I prefer the oven baked result. Also – don’t use parchment paper in air fryer for this one. The dough is too light and it just blows around and can catch fire.

How do you store and reheat leftover homemade cinnamon twists?

Store leftovers in an airtight container (I like these glass ones) for up to a week – no need to refrigerate. Reheat in the microwave for 20 seconds. (They’re good at room temperature too!)
