What You Will ❤️ About McDonald’s Breakfast Burrito

  • No Pants! That’s right – I love these burritos but who wants to put pants on to go get them? Not me! So now – I make them at home – pants optional.
  • Cheesy & Meaty – that’s why I love these burritos and the first bite of these took me right back to the McD’s drive thru! They’re perfect!
  • Make a Bunch!!! I like making a double batch and then I can freeze them so I always have a burrito ready to go!

Homemade Mcdonald’s Breakfast Burrito Ingredients

Copycat Mcdonald’s breakfast burritos are pretty simple but you to get them just right – here’s what you’ll need:

  • Breakfast Sausage – McD’s uses Jimmy Dean precooked sausage crumbles – but I used a Breakfast Pork Sausage and cooked myself.
  • Eggs – any eggs are good!
  • Rotel Tomatoes with green chilies – You just need 1/4 cup – so you could also use diced tomatoes or even salsa!
  • Flour Tortillas – I love the low carb La Banderita – they’re always soft and easy to roll!
  • American Cheese – this is key and don’t do the plastic encased slices! Get yourself some Land O’Lakes sliced American! It’s so far and away the BEST!

Recipe Variations

  • Veggies – feel free to add more veggies to these burritos! Sauteed bell pepper, yellow onion, spinach and mushrooms would all be a great to sneak in more vegetables!
  • Sausage – you could lighten this up by using turkey or chicken sausage or spice it up with chorizo.
  • Tortillas – I like going low carb but I definitely recommend flour. You could also use smaller street taco shells and eat them as breakfast tacos or whole wheat tortillas for more nutrition.
  • Cheese – McDs uses American cheese but colby jack or pepper jack cheese would also be good!
  • Sauce – these are typically served with a mild salsa but you could serve with hot sauce and sour cream – or mix them to make your own burrito sauce!

How to make McDonald’s breakfast burrito recipe

I like to do everything separately for this to get it the most similar to the Golden Arches. Here’s how to make these delicious hand-held breakfast burritos! (Full instructions in recipe card at bottom of page.)

  1. Sausage: In a large skillet, sauté the sausage for 3 to 4 minutes or until the sausage is browned. Set aside.
  2. Clean skillet and add butter. Over medium low, slow scramble beaten eggs.
  3. Steam the tortillas in the microwave with a damp paper towel to warm and soften them.
  4. In a bowl, toss together the scrambled egg, sausage and Rotel tomatoes.
  5. To make the burrito, lay half slice of American cheese on middle of tortilla.
  6. Spoon 2-3 tbsp egg filling into the tortilla. Fold the bottom 1/3 of the tortilla up over the filling, then fold up and roll tightly to the other side of the burrito. One end should be open.
  7. Heat in microwave for 20 seconds and serve hot with salsa and avocado on the side. You could also pop them in the air fryer for 2-3 minutes until the tortilla is golden brown.
