Smoked Green Beans are heavenly! The best part is you can put it together in minutes and then pop it on your smoker! I added bacon, onion and my favorite BBQ rub just to make it even more delicious.

These Traeger Smoked Green Beans are also a copycat of the Texas Roadhouse Green Beans. They have a delicious smoky flavor and these definitely match up to that! It’s the layers of flavors that make them so decadent – with onions, bacon, BBQ Rub seasoning and even a touch of apple cider vinegar and finished with butter. How can they not be good?

What’s in Smoked Green Beans?
- frozen green beans – I used 2 bags of whole green beans – but you could use canned or fresh as well
- Using fresh? They will take a little longer and more water in the pan – I would start with 2.5 hours and see if they’re fork tender
- Using canned? They will take less time – I would go for 1.5 hours and be sure to drain the beans.
- diced bacon & onion – uncooked! Put it in raw – it cooks while it’s smoking
- your favorite BBQ seasoning – I love Historic BBQ – they’re local and work great on anything
- a touch of water & apple cider vinegar
- 1/2 stick butter because butter makes everything better

How do you make Smoked Green Beans?
- Get your smoker ready! I use a Traeger pellet grill but you can use any type of smoker
- While it’s heating up, toss green beans in a baking dish
- Sprinkle diced onion and bacon on top of beans and stir
- Sprinkle BBQ Rub all over beans
- Add water and vinegar to dish
- When smoker/Traeger is up to temp at 225 – place pan in smoker
- Smoke at 225 for 2 hours – checking at 1 hour and stir
- Raise temp to 400 on Traeger
- Add butter slices to top of beans and add more seasoning if you’d like
- Smoke for 30 minutes at 400 degrees

Tips, Tricks & FAQs
Yes – you can make them in a crock pot or the oven. If you do in the crock pot – I would definitely cook the onion and bacon first. In the oven – you could put them in raw. Either way I would add a few dashes of Liquid Smoke to add that flavor and scent.
Yes – they’ll just need 30-60 minutes more in the smoker. Check them to your preferred doneness.
Yup! They’ll need LESS time – by 30-60 minutes! They’ll be much softer – so they would be my last choice.
Nope! When you kick the smoker up to 400- they’ll finish cooking and be just right! You can cook them a little if you’d like but do NOT cook them all the way through.
Salt, pepper, garlic – always works!

What to serve with Traeger Green Beans
- Traeger Pork Chops – pop them on for the last bit of cooking!
- Air Fryer Whole Chicken
- Texas Roadhouse Steak Seasoning – if you’re having TXR Green Beans – might as well have some steak too!

Absolutely loved these. I will partially cook the bacon first next time because it took a long time for it to crisp up – but wow. Flavor heaven!
