Fried Bologna in the Air Fryer is a throwback to childhood and it’s still delicious! Thick-cut beef bologna is delicious in your air fryer – especially when you put it on a pretzel bun with all the toppings!
What You Will Love About Air Fryer Bologna
I recently had a fried bologna sandwich from our local high school FFA and remembered how delicious they were! I headed to Kroger to make my own! The key is that thick-cut GOOD bologna! What I loved is that the sandwich is ready in just 6 minutes and so much better than just plain old cold bologna on white bread!
Fried Bologna Sandwich Recipe Ingredients
There’s more than just bologna on this sandwich – grab the condiments for this one!
- Bologna – It’s all about the thickness of the bologna here! Skip the cheap lunch meat and get a good beef bologna like Kahn’s and asking them to thick cut it for you at the deli
- Pretzel Buns – don’t just use a slice of bread – get fancy!
- American Cheese – you could also use Swiss cheese or Cheddar Cheese or even Provolone!
- Lettuce
- Tomato
- Pickles
- Mayo & Mustard – I always use Duke’s Mayo but the mustard is up to you – dijon mustard, horseradish mustard or yellow mustard – whatever you like!
- OPTIONAL: Add an egg to this and you’ve got a bologna & fried egg sandwich!
How to Make Fried Bologna in the Air Fryer
A fried boloney sandwich is simple and done in 6 minutes – here’s what you do:
- Spray the air fryer basket with non-stick cooking oil spray
- Slice 4 slits around each slice of bologna with a knife
- Place bologna in a single layer in the basket of the air fryer
- Air fry at 380ºF for 3 minutes.
- Open air fryer, flip bologna slices, open buns place on top of bologna. Air fry 3 min more. This will toast your buns!
- Cook’s Note: Feel free to add a touch of butter to the pretzel buns before you add them in
- When done, using tongs, remove bologna from tray and serve immediately on warmed pretzel buns, add toppings and enjoy.
Tips, Tricks & FAQs
Make short slices in 4 spots around the bologna and that will keep those slices stay flat when cooking.

Uh. No. But everything in moderation! (More info in the recipe nutrition facts)
You can store in an airtight container and reheat in the air fryer for 2 minutes but I wouldn’t recommend it. Just make enough for your sandwiches and no leftovers.
