This Ground Pork Spaghetti will remind you of a rich bolognese sauce at a fancy Italian restaurant – but you’ll know you made it at home and it’s easy!!! Full of chunky veggies, affordable ground pork and delicious San Marzano tomatoes!

What You Will ❤️ About Spaghetti with Ground Pork
- Affordable!!! Ground Pork is less than half the price of ground beef! Plus it’s lean, delicious and has more flavor than ground beef!
- Hearty! Adding all those vegetables really “beefs up” this recipe (no pun intended). This sauce goes a long way and easily serves 8-10 people. Plus it freezes great!
- Supporting Ohio Farmers – More than 3500 family farms in Ohio raise enough pork to feed about 25 million people. So when you buy pork at the grocery store or the farmers market, you are supporting Ohio farm families that produce that pork.

Ground Pork Spaghetti Ingredients
I like my spaghetti sauce with chunks of meat and veggies – so that’s what we’ve got here! Here’s what you’ll need to make this rich and hearty pasta dish:
- 1 lb spaghetti
- 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 1 onion – ooh check out the vegetable chopper I just got – no more tears!
- 2 carrot
- 1 celery stalk
- 1 tbsp minced garlic – you can add 2-3 garlic cloves or more if you like
- 8 oz mushrooms
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning (or mix of oregano and basil)
- 1/2 tsp fennel seeds
- 1.5 lb ground pork – $1.99 a pound!!!!!
- 1 cup red wine – you can substitute beef broth if you like. I use the mini-bottles of Sutter Home wine since I never drink wine at home.
- 28 oz crushed tomatoes (San Marzano) – these are similar texture to tomato sauce but less sugar
- 14.5 oz can diced tomatoes
- 6 oz can tomato paste
- 1/4 tsp dried sage
- 2 tsp salt
- Fresh herbs like: basil, parsley, rosemary – fresh herbs are always great! I have 3 Aerogardens in my kitchen so I have fresh herbs at my fingertips all year round!

Recipe Variations
This pork bolognese recipe is so delicious – but you can make some modifications to suit you and your family. Here are some ideas:
- Veggies – feel free to add bell pepper to this meat sauce with the onion & carrot – or leave out mushrooms if you’re not a fan
- Ground Meat – swap the ground pork with beef, chicken or turkey – or leave it out for a meatless dish!
- Fancy it Up – add pancetta or bacon when your are sauteing the veggies for a punch of flavor

How to make Spaghetti with Meat Sauce
Ground pork pasta sauce is super easy to make and your Dutch Oven is your best friend! It’s deep – so it holds all the sauce, basically nonstick and – we’re not doing it here – but it’s oven safe too!
- Heat oil in Dutch Oven over medium-high heat
- Add celery, carrot, onion, garlic, Italian seasoning and fennel. Cook about 5 minutes until veggies are softened.
- Add mushrooms and ground pork and cook 10 minutes over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until pork is mostly cooked through.
- Add wine to pan and reduce until liquid is mostly gone.
- Add crushed tomatoes, diced tomatoes, tomato paste, salt and sage and stir.
- Cover and Simmer for about 20 min.
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil and prepare spaghetti according to package directions for al dente.
- Finely dice fresh herbs and add to sauce and stir. Simmer 10 more minutes
- Serve over spaghetti with parmesan cheese and garlic bread
