What You Will ❤️ About Hot Dogs on the Blackstone
- Quick – Hot Dogs are obviously quick to make! I typically make them in the air fryer – but if you have other things to make – or don’t have an AF – the Blackstone is the best alternative!
- Flavor! – I can’t believe we only BOILED hot dogs as a kid! These Blackstone dogs taste amazing and have so much flavor from charring them on the outsides!
- Fancy – Wait – how is a hot dog fancy? Just wait!! I’ll show you how!

Ingredients You Need
I mean – hey – it’s not rocket science – to make hot dogs on the Blackstone – you need HOT DOGS!
- Hot Dogs – duh. Hahaha – I like a high-quality hot dog like Nathan’s – I just think they are great. Hebrew National Makes a good dog as well. But I will say – I used to ONLY eat the Oscar Mayer Cheese Dogs! Use what you love! (Comment your favorite hot dog!!!)

Recipe Variations
There are so many ways to serve a hot dog – I went purist on this one and just did a bun with condiments – but here are some other FANCY hot diggity dog ideas:
- Chicago dog – traditionally it’s an all-beef frankfurter in a poppy seed bun, topped with yellow mustard, neon-green sweet pickle relish, chopped white onion, tomatoes, a dill pickle spear, pickled sport peppers and celery salt.
- Smoked sausage with peppers & onions – you can do the classic peppers & onions with hot dogs too!
- Bacon wrapped – I’ve done bacon wrapped dogs in the air fryer – so why not the Blackstone!
- Sonoran Dog – take the bacon-wrapped up a notch and make a Sonoran Dog – it’s wrapped in bacon, served on a bolillo-style hot dog bun and topped with pinto beans, onions, tomatoes, mayonnaise, mustard, and jalapeño salsa.
- Timmy Dog Style! The Root Beer Stand in Cincinnati serves footlong dogs Timmy Style and they are loaded!!! I love them! They’ve got Chili, Cheese, Onion, Mustard, Hot Sauce, Ketchup, Relish, Slaw and Sauerkraut!

How to make Hot Dogs on the Blackstone
Making hot dogs is perfection on the Blackstone Flat Top Grill! Toss em on, turn em, eat em! Here’s exactly how you do it:
- Make your hot dogs fancy! Partially slice hot dogs on a diagonal and again on opposite diagonal to make a criss cross effect. Do not slice all the way through – just enough so when you bend the dog – you can see the marks.
- Turn Blackstone onto medium high and when griddle is at 375º – add a light squirt of canola oil to the griddle surface (avoid olive oil – it has a low smoke point)
- Place hot dogs on the hot surface – sprinkle with seasoning salt or a little salt & pepper
- Cook for 2-3 min
- Using tongs, roll hot dogs in seasoning
- Cook 2-3 min more
- Toast buns on Blackstone to warm for 1 minute (you can butter the hot dog buns lightly before putting them on the griddle if you like)
- Remove hot dogs and buns from griddle and serve with ketchup, mustard, relish & more!

Tips, Tricks & FAQs
Store leftovers in an airtight container (I like these glass ones) in the refrigerator for up to a week. Reheat in the microwave for 30 seconds.
Sure – all hot dogs are partially cooked so it will work with any!
It’s just a large cooking surface – so if you’re making food for a crowd – it’s a great option because you can cook a ton of dogs – or make burgers, dogs and more – all at once on the Blackstone Grill.
