🔍 COPYCAT SECRETS UNCOVERED!

Here’s the deal on this one – it’s a bit inconsistent. Sometimes you get plain rice that’s cooked in chicken broth – other times you get that PLUS the onions and peppers – I don’t know why! But, if you make it at home – add the veggies – it’s so much better! My kid said, “That rice was 🔥!” so I guess that’s a good thing. 🤷‍♀️

This rich flavor of this rice goes great with a steak but also with their Alice Springs Chicken (another fave of mine!).

How to make Outback Seasoned Rice

Rice isn’t hard to jazz up – the key to the savory flavor of Outback Steakhouse Seasoned Rice recipe is not using plain water when you make the rice! Use broth – the same amount you would water – and after it’s “done” let it have it’s resting period to absorb any little water that is remaining. Or just follow the instructions below – I got you!

  1. MELT butter in a large sauce pan over medium high heat.
    • I love my HexClad cookware – nothing sticks and nothing that will “come off” if you scrape it.
    • I tried using a deep dish saute pan but there wasn’t enough liquid and it burned. Now – because it was HexClad – it was easy to clean. But yes – even I burn things and have to redo them! 😉
  2. SAUTE bell pepper and onion until soft. Add spices and stir to combine.
    • Substitutions: you could also add celery, peas or finely diced carrots.
  3. POUR in rice and chicken broth and stir until mixed together.
  4. COVER and bring to a simmer. Cook for 13 minutes over low heat.
  5. REMOVE from heat and let rice sit for 5 minutes.
  6. FLUFF rice with a fork, add fresh parsley (or other fresh herbs) and toss.

Tips Tricks & FAQs

Long grain white rice is what I used for this – I prefer Jasmine or Basmati rice but used the long-grain rice to match Outback. You can also use brown rice. Really – use what you like!

No – beef broth or vegetable broth would also work – you do need something to add that extra punch of flavor. You could also use water and bouillon if you didn’t have broth.

Store in an airtight container (I like these glass storage containers) in the fridge for up to 5 days. Reheat in the microwave for 45 seconds.
