Air Fryer Flank Steak Recipe Ingredients
Flank Steak is a wonderful cut of steak – it’s affordable and so easy to make delicious. This is a classic and simple steak marinade that I jazzed up a bit with my new favorite seasoning! The flavors meld together to make a delicious steak!
- Flank steak – these are typically about 1.5 lbs and usually packaged folded over
- Olive oil
- Soy sauce – no need for salt when you have soy & worcestershire sauces
- Worcestershire sauce
- Lemon – you could also use lime juice – I used lemon because that’s why I had
- Garlic – fresh or jarred minced garlic works
- Adobo with Lime Seasoning – you could also use Tajin Clasico Seasoning
- Minced Onion
- Fresh Basil – you can use dried but I love fresh so much better! Especially with my Aero-Garden – I got one a few months ago and am obsessed. My basil plants are going crazy – I have fresh basil all the time!

How to Make Flank Steak in your Air Fryer
Other than marinating, the rest of cooking steak in your air fryer is two steps! Put it in and take it out! Here’s the step-by-step:
- In a large plastic zipper bag, add all ingredients except the steak. Seal the bag and mix together all ingredients.
- Remove steak from packaging and rinse with water. Pat dry with a paper towel and place steak in marinade bag and refrigerate overnight (or a minimum of 2-3 hours).
- Remove steak from refrigerator about 30 minutes before cooking. Drain marinade and let rest on counter so it comes to room temperature.
- Preheat Air Fryer to 400º F. If you don’t have a preheat setting, just run the air fryer at 400º for 5 minutes.
- Side note: I NEVER preheat – but you want your steak to go into a HOT air fryer – so this is the one time I will recommend it.
- Place steak in air fryer basket. Air fry for 10 minutes – flipping half way through.
- Check your steak with an instant read thermometer and it should read 130º for medium-rare.
- Remove steak from air fryer basket and lay on cutting board. Let rest for 5 minutes.
- MOST IMPORTANT STEP: Slice against the grain and serve!
- Flank steak has very obvious vertical grain lines. Be sure to slice with a sharp knife AGAINST the grain. This will ensure super tender steak in every bite!

Tips, Tricks & FAQs
As long as you cook the steak to medium rare and don’t overcook it – any way will work. I just did a Smoked Flank Steak and it was delicious! I’ve also done a citrus-marinated on a grill pan. Cook to medium rare and slice against the grain and it’ll be perfect!
Marinating helps break down the muscle so it’s a little more tender when you cook it. Be sure to only cook to medium rare (130º) and then slice against the grain for tender steak every time!
No. Just the opposite! You want to check the internal temperature with a meat thermometer – the meat will tell you when it’s done!
No – not really. I do just because the top side tends to look prettier – so if I’m cooking something to make it pretty – I’ll flip it so both sides look nice. If not – I don’t bother flipping. This holds true for marinated meat.
If you’re cooking meat with breading or seasoning – you definitely want to flip so both sides get even hot air flow. Otherwise your bottom side of the breaded meat will be soggy instead of crunchy!
Yes! You’re using hot air to circulate around the steak and cook it. It doesn’t get that same “bark” as if you sear it on a cast iron skillet – but it’s just as tender and delicious!
Store leftovers in an airtight container (I like these glass ones) in the fridge for up to a week. I like to eat my flank steak leftovers cold sometimes – but for reheating, just put in the microwave for 1-2 minutes. You don’t want to overcook the steak.

Flank Steak Recipe Variations
- Dry Rub – if you’re not a fan of marinade or don’t have the time, you can just coat with your favorite steak seasoning
- Great spices for steak are black pepper, cumin, paprika & chili powder
- Make Tacos – flank steak is great with tacos – you can always have all the fixins for tacos and just slice your steak right into the tortillas.
- Potatoes – I had some Yukon Gold potatoes and put them in before the steak so my air fryer was preheated. Then I had steak & potatoes all together!
- Salad – My other Aero-Garden (yes I have 2) is growing a few varieties of lettuce! I tore off a few leaves and served steak on top for a delicious salad.

With the cold weather (and snow today), we’re going to lean more on our air fryer. Steak is something I miss from outdoor grilling so we’ll definitely try this. Caught your interview with Cincinnati Magazine. A cookbook is coming?!
yes – I use my AF daily! Thanks for checking me out and yes – I have an Air Fryer Cooking for One cookbook coming in January!
