Microwave Turkey Bacon is a great gluten-free, keto side dish for breakfast. You can also use turkey bacon as a delicious addition to other dishes in place of regular pork bacon with a lot less grease.

  • So Healthy! One slice of turkey bacon has only 45 calories! That’s nearly half the calories in regular bacon and 1/3 lower fat.
  • Meaty! There’s no fat to cook off from turkey bacon – so all you’re getting here is meat! (And it’s so much better than those gross crusty bacon bits!)
  • Versatile – Turkey bacon is a great option to add a bit of meat without the fat. You can use turkey bacon in soups, dips, sandwiches, casseroles or just as a delicious breakfast side dish!
  • Easy Cleanup – because you just have a paper towel to throw away – the cleanup is a breeze and only takes 2 seconds!

Microwave Turkey Bacon Ingredients

Well – it’s not shocking – you need a package of turkey bacon! Here’s a little more info:

  • 8 oz Turkey Bacon
    • There are many brands of Turkey bacon in the grocery store! Two of my favorites are Godshall’s and Bowman Landes. Bowman Landes is interesting as it’s an Ohio farm and their turkey bacon has light and dark meat turkey so it “looks” more like bacon.

Cooking Bacon in Multiple Ways

You could also make bacon in the air fryer, stovetop or oven-baked. But my favorite way is typically the air fryer. I will say – the microwave method did a great job as well!

  • Turkey Bacon in the Air Fryer – you can also make turkey bacon slices in the air fryer at 350º for 4-5 minutes.
  • Turkey Bacon on the Stove Top – you’ll want to add a little oil to the pan for this one and cook turkey bacon in a hot frying pan for 3-4 minutes.
  • Regular Bacon in the Microwave – or if you have some regular pork bacon folks – it can be made in the microwave following the same instructions but cooking for 3-4 minutes.
  • Frozen Bacon in the Air Fryer – You can even do frozen bacon! Basically you need to partially cook it so it thaws enough to pull the slices apart and then cook the normal amount for thawed bacon. This does allow you to go from freezer to plate in minutes!
  • Frozen Bacon in the Microwave – The same theory stands but I would do the bacon at 50% power when thawing – then full power to cook.

How to make Turkey Bacon in the Microwave

The microwave is definitely the quickest way to make bacon and it’s really tasty! Here’s what to do:

  1. Separate the turkey bacon strips and place them on a paper towel in a single layer.
  2. Place that paper towel on a microwave safe plate.
  3. Microwave the bacon for 60 seconds. If it’s not done to your likeness, you can add 15-20 seconds more.

Does turkey bacon come pre-cooked?

Sometimes. The two kinds of bacon I used are cured and taste similar to lunch meat when uncooked.

How do you store and reheat leftover cooked turkey bacon?

Store leftover bacon in an airtight container (I like these glass ones) in the refrigerator for up to a week. Reheat in the microwave for 1 minute. 

Why do I need the paper towel?

Turkey bacon doesn’t really have excess grease like regular bacon but it will have moisture. The paper towel-lined plate will absorb that moisture.

Can I use a microwave bacon tray?

Sure – if you have one you sure can.

Does this work for thick-cut bacon as well?

Yes definitely! You may need to add 10-20 seconds if your bacon is thick.
