Ingredients & Tools Needed for Bacon on the Outdoor Griddle

  • Thick Cut Bacon – It does cook quickly – so I recommend THICK CUT. One pound fits nicely on the 28″ Blackstone. If making more – you can always cook in batches.
    • It does matter the type of bacon you use – this cooks quickly – so thick cut bacon is really better to use if at all possible. If you just have regular cut – turn the heat DOWN!!!
  • Thermometer Gun – the infrared thermometer gun is $30 well spent! It helps so much so you’re not prone to overcooking or burning your food.
  • Big Spatulas – the traditional “big spatulas” make it easy to turn and have long handles to keep your hands from the heat.
  • Squirt Bottle – you’ll need your water bottle for cleaning
  • Scraper – the long handled scraper in the cleaning kit works great
  • Tongs – Get an extra long pair of tongs to help with cleaning

How to make Bacon on the Blackstone Griddle

  1. Heat Blackstone griddle to medium heat
  2. Check griddle temperature with thermometer gun – once griddle temp is 275º – lay out thick-cut bacon strips. Let cook for 2 minutes. TIP: Don’t just throw it on high and go – your bacon will cook in about 2-3 min total and be super crunchy! You lose a lot of flavor that way. Go a little lower and slower!
  3. Using a metal spatula, flip bacon slices. Let cook 2-3 minutes more until bacon reaches just UNDER desired doneness. I like my bacon chewy – so medium low heat for 2-3 min each side is just right. If you like it crispier, turn the heat up to medium and it’ll be done in the same time. Recommend taking OFF before it’s “done” because it gets crispier as it rests.
  4. Remove slices of bacon from Blackstone and move to a paper towel to drain excess grease.

5. For cleaning, scrape excess bacon grease and browned bits through drain hole in back of griddle – be sure you have tin catcher in there! Turn off heat and using a lint-free towel, brush any remaining excess bacon fat across griddle surface. Let dry and cool before placing your silicone mat and cover on the flat-top griddle.

Tips, Tricks & FAQs

Should the bacon be cold from the fridge when I put it on?

Actually it’s good to have your bacon room temperature when you put it on the griddle. Less shock and it won’t toughen up. Just take it outside with you before you turn on the griddle – it’ll “warm” up quickly.

Should I oil my Blackstone before cooking bacon?

No – definitely not! Bacon has so much oil in it. It’s why you want to put bacon on a HOT griddle – it will produce the grease needed immediately.

What temperature do you cook bacon on Blackstone?

I like to cook between 275-300º F so it’ doesn’t cook/burn too quickly.

Do I need a Blackstone bacon press?

Nah – I didn’t and the bacon didn’t curl up. A griddle press is definitely not necessary!

How do you store and reheat leftover bacon

Store leftovers in a ziploc bag in the refrigerator for up to a week. Reheat in the microwave for 1 minute or in the air fryer at 300º for 3-4 minutes.
