Making Baked Potatoes on a Traeger pellet grill really made them even better with that subtle smoky flavor that the wood pellets bring! There’s nothing I love more than a crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside baked potato!

The best part is you can pop the potatoes on when you’re smoking something your main dish! I made mine while I was smoking these delightful pig shots (sausage, bacon & cream cheese – serious yum!).

Ingredients for Baked Potatoes
Obviously – baked potatoes are pretty simple – they’re a perfect and easy side dish for any meal. If you want that restaurant-style crispy skin – you have to add a couple key ingredients. Here’s what you need:
- 4 Russet potatoes
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tsp coarse sea salt

How do you make baked potatoes on the smoker?
- Preheat Traeger to 300 degrees F.
- Wash the potatoes and pat dry with paper towel. Poke potato a few times with a paring knife, rub olive oil over the entire potato and season all sides with coarse sea salt.
- Place the seasoned potatoes onto the Traeger grill grates and smoke for about 90 minutes, or until soft and fork-tender.
- Carefully remove from the Traeger and serve with your favorite toppings like butter, sour cream and a sprinkle of chives or parsley.

Tips, Tricks & FAQs
Yes! They’re very simple – just like you would in the oven! Olive oil, salt and in the Traeger they go!
Russet potatoes are always best for baking. They get nice and fluffy!
Yeah – they’re grown in dirt. Unless you like to eat dirt.
It’s the olive oil & salt – makes it so good!
Well – this is the magic of it – they take however long you want! I was making pig shots at 300º – so I put the potatoes on with them – 90 minutes and done! If you’re smoking something at 225º – they’re going to take longer – probably 2-2.5 hours. Grilling at 400 – then they’ll take an hour.
You can always add smoke tubes to your charcoal or gas grill. Fill them with wood pellets and light with a butane lighter. Then, once the pellets are lit, set the tubes on the grill and shut the lid. The smoke will impart itself into the food just like on a smoker. You could also use wood chips.
You want a lighter wood – the fruitwoods are great – such as applewood.
Store any leftover potatoes in an airtight container. To reheat you can microwave them for 2 minutes or air fry for 5-7 minutes.
