Top sirloin topped with sautéed shrimp and a lemon butter Parmesan cheese sauce. The savory parmesan cheese sauce is very light and would also be nice as a gravy on potatoes. You can keep this recipes keto & low-carb by just having a side of veggies. I had some roasted potato leftovers so I indulged a bit.

Ingredients For Shrimp ‘n Parmesan Sirloin

  • sirloin steaks – you can really use any cut of steak you like when making at home – but with sirloin look for at least some marbling. It’s a very affordable cut but can be a little tough – marbling ensures tenderness!
  • RAW shrimp, peeled & deveined – always use RAW shrimp when cooking – and pop the tails off before you cook – that way nobody has to stick their fingers in the food!
  • salt & pepper – you ca also use a seasoning salt – or my copycat Texas Roadhouse steak seasoning
  • minced garlic – you can also use garlic powder or garlic salt – if you use garlic salt – use a little less plain salt
  • butter
  • All Purpose Flour
  • milk – you can also use half & half or heavy cream
  • lemon
  • grated Parmesan cheese

How do you make Applebees Shrimp & Steak?

This copycat recipe is super simple – you can cook your steaks however you like – grilled steak is always amazing but I provided instruction for cooking steak in a cast iron skillet.

If you use an outside grill – you can also have grilled shrimp instead of sauteed on the stove. I always recommend putting shrimp on wooden skewers – that way they don’t fall through the grates!

Instructions:

  1. Season steaks and shrimp with salt, pepper and garlic
  2. In cast iron skillet, melt 2 tbsp butter on high
  3. Once butter is melted add steak so it sears – cook 2-3 min on one side
  4. Add 2 more tbsp butter and flip steak – cook 2-3 more min (use an instant read meat thermometer to check the temp of your meat to preference – this cook time is for medium rare)
  5. Remove steak from pan and let it rest – remove pan from heat (you’ll need it again)
  6. Lower heat to medium on burner.
  7. In a separate small sauce pan, saute 3 tbsp butter and garlic on medium heat. Stir and cook for 1 minute.
  8. Add flour, milk, juice from lemon and cheese to saucepan and whisk frequently until the sauce begins to simmer. This sauce cooks very quickly – once simmering and thickened – remove saucepan from heat.
  9. Place cast iron skillet back on heat on medium-high heat. if pan is dry – add 1 tbsp olive oil
  10. Add shrimp to hot skillet and saute. (Feel free to season shrimp with Old Bay seasoning if you have some!)
  11. Saute shrimp 1-2 min until opaque
  12. Serve steak on plate and top with sautéed shrimp. Then pour parmesan sauce over top of steak & shrimp.

What is the difference between Alfredo sauce and parmesan sauce?

TBH – not much! haha! Alfredo sauce is made with milk and cream – this creamy parmesan sauce is just made with milk and Alfredo has a combination of cheeses. Other than that – pretty much the same. Because Parmesan sauce is made with just milk – it’s a little thinner than Alfredo sauce also.

Is sirloin steak good?

Yes definitely! Applebee’s copycat steak is a top sirloin which is a very affordable cut of beef – which makes it a big hit in restaurants. The best way to prepare it is to cook quickly on high heat by either broiling, sauteing or grilling. I recommend cooking sirloin medium rare to medium (130-140 degrees), otherwise it may be overcooked and become too chewy.

Pro Tip: If you’ve got time – coat these thick steaks in baking soda on both sides and put it in the refrigerator on a plate for an hour (no need to cover it). Baking soda is a great meat tenderizer for your steak!
