Spiral Ham Recipe Ingredients

Spiral cut hams are my favorite because a lot of the work is done for you! It’s already smoked and sliced – but we’re going to make a double-smoked ham for more flavor.

  • Spiral sliced ham – this is an 8-10 lb and there is a bone inside. You can use this same recipe with any type of ham
  • Ham Glaze – throw away the glaze packet that they give you and make your own! Here are the classic brown sugar glaze ingredients you’ll need:
    • Light brown sugar – can use dark brown sugar
    • Pineapple juice – can use apple juice, orange juice or a little less apple cider vinegar
    • Honey – can use maple syrup – if you want more tangy swap with dijon mustard
    • Cinnamon
    • Whole cloves – I bought a big bag on Amazon (so much cheaper) because I like to make simmer gifts for the holidays with them.

How to make Spiral Smoked Ham on a Traeger

We’re kind of making a Double Smoked Spiral Ham because the ham is already smoked once and we’re gonna smoke it again on the Traeger! Here’s what we’ll do:

  1. Preheat the Traeger with the lid closed to 225°F; this will take about 15 minutes.
  2. Remove the ham from any packaging and discard netting, plastic and glaze packet. Place the ham cut-side down directly on the grill grates. Close the lid and cook for 60 minutes.
  3. In a small saucepan, add brown sugar, pineapple juice, honey, cinnamon and cloves. Turn onto medium heat and bring to a boil together and cook for 3-4 minutes to thicken sauce before pouring onto ham and baking.
  4. Brush the ham with the glaze every 20 minutes for 60 minutes. Using an Instant read meat thermometer – check the internal temperature to be sure its 145º. Ham is already cooked so you’re really just reheating it but you want it to be at least warm to the bone.
  5. Remove the ham from grill. Slice and serve. Pour any leftover glaze onto the ham slices. Cover with an aluminum foil tent if not serving right away to let the ham rest. Enjoy!

Tips, Tricks & FAQs

How do you store and reheat leftover ham?

Store leftovers in an airtight container (I like these glass ones) in the refrigerator for up to a week. If you have a lot leftover, use ziploc bags. You can freeze up to three months. Reheat in the microwave for 1-3 minutes depending on how much you’re reheating.

How can I get more smoke flavors?

Smoker Tubes – It’s a metal tube with holes – fill that tube with Traeger pellets and then light it with a butane lighter. Once the pellets catch fire – let them get started – then blow the flames out. Set them in the grill and shut the lid. The smoke flavor is all those tubes will leave behind!

What can I do with the ham bone?

Be sure to save it!!!! I like putting in the crock pot to make ham & bean soup!

Can I make this recipe in the oven or slow cooker?

Yes of course! The oven might be easier as you can use a large roasting pan or a Dutch oven. For the slow cooker – you’ll need a pretty big one for this to fit! You can also collect the drippings and pour them over top when serving.
