How do you cook roasted potatoes on a Traeger grill?
A cast iron skillet is your best friend in this situation. That photo above took less than five minutes to put together. I bought a bag of baby potatoes – sprinkled over olive oil, salt and pepper – then pulled off some sprigs of fresh herbs – and that’s it! I was grilling chicken thighs and decided to pop these on at the same time. Everything was done in 35 minutes! (You could even throw some carrots in as well and have a complete meal!)
I love my Traeger grill! I got it a couple of years ago (thanks to the folks at Traeger!) and it holds a lot. I think this one can hold four chickens! (Who cooks FOUR chickens at once?!) I grilled up five pounds of bone-in chicken thighs and these roasted potatoes in just 35 minutes and they were delicious!
What goes with Herb Roasted Potatoes?
Traeger Herb Roasted Potatoes
- 1.5 pound bag of baby red or yukon gold potatoes
- 1-2 Tablespoons coarse sea salt
- 1 tablespoon ground black pepper
- Fresh herbs – rosemary, oregano, thyme
- Slice baby potatoes in half
- Place in cast iron skillet and add olive oil, salt and pepper and toss gently in pan.
- Top with fresh herbs
- When ready to grill, make sure there are enough pellets in the hopper
- Turn Traeger grill onto Smoke setting and turn on.
- After about 4-5 minutes, Traeger grill starts to smoke – shut lid and change temp to 400 degrees
- Watch temperature gage and it will come up to temp in about 10 minutes
- Once grill is at 400 degrees – place skillet on grill
- Come back in about 35 minutes and with a potholder – remove the skillet – potatoes are ready!
- To shut down your Traeger, leave the grill lid open, turn the knob to Shut Down. After about 5 minutes the fan will shut down and then you can turn the power off and put the cover back on.
