This recipe was made using the Paula Deen Air Fryer.

Air Fryer Onion Ring Ingredients

Simple ingredients for onion rings – breading, an egg to make it all stick and panko for the CRUNCH!!!!

  • 1 large yellow onion THICKLY sliced and separated, skins peeled (I like Vidalia onions for this)
  • 1/2 cup Hooters Wing Breading
    • I like the Hooters Wing Breading since it’s already seasoned. You could also add paprika, garlic powder & cayenne pepper to all purpose flour for something similar
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 1 cup panko bread crumbs
  • Dipping Sauce – I love a dipping sauce for onion rings and this one is so easy and tastes so good!!

How to Air Fry Onion Rings

Yes of course!!! It’s super easy! A lot of people were asking how to cut onions for onion rings and I would recommend THICK slices.

  • Be sure to peel all “skin” off onions
  • Set up breading stations with shallow dishes. You’ll want:
    • Hooters Breading
    • Beaten Egg
    • Panko Breadcrumbs
  • Dip each onion ring in wing breading, then egg, then panko
  • Loosely place about 10 rings at a time in air fryer basket in a single layer. Spray them with cooking spray or olive oil so they will brown.
  • Cook in batches at 375º for 10 minutes, you can open halfway and turn them using silicone tongs
  • Cover to keep warm while cooking remaining onions
  • For Dippin Sauce – stir together all ingredients and refrigerate until ready to serve

Store leftovers in an airtight container (I like these glass ones) in the refrigerator for 2-3 days. Here’s all the tips on Reheating Onion Rings in the Air Fryer.

You can freeze the onion rings before cooking. Lay them in a single layer on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper and freeze until hardened. Then take them and put them in a ziploc bag and into the freezer for up to 3 months.

Can you make frozen store-bought onion rings in the air fryer?

Yes – put them in at 400º for 8-10 minutes. Alexia onion rings are my fav!
