I’m a huge mushroom fan – and breaded fried mushrooms are one of my favorite restaurant appetizers that I know make at home all the time!!!! With the air fryer – there’s no mess, no oil – and they’re crispy and just as delicious. This air fryer breaded mushroom recipe will hit the SPOT for you any night!
While I normally order battered mushrooms – these panko-breaded mushrooms will not disappoint! They are so crunchy on the outside and then juicy on the inside – pair them with a bowl of ranch and you will think you’re at your local sports bar instead of on your own couch!

These Crispy Air Fryer Breaded Mushrooms are super simple to make – and you can even get the kids involved. Let them do them messy breading work – they love getting their hands dirty. The best part is – you can have these on the table in less than 15 minutes of cooking time (and so much less oil!)
Here’s a fun date night – make it a restaurant-night IN during quarantine! These breaded mushrooms are the perfect side dish for my Copycat Freddy’s A1 Chophouse Steak Burger. Then finish it off with the Carnival Cruise Melting Chocolate Cake.

Breaded Mushrooms Ingredients
With an air fryer – you’re blowing hot air around – so you don’t want to use a wet batter. It will blow all over and NOT be fun to clean up! So I’ve made a breading vs. a batter. Here’s what you’ll need:
- 8 oz white button mushrooms
- you can use oyster mushrooms or baby bella mushrooms as well – but small button are my fav!
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 3/4 cup all purpose flour
- 2 tsp garlic powder
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp water
- 1 cup panko bread crumbs – I like panko vs regular bread crumbs because they’re so much crunchier!
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp cayenne pepper

How to Air Fry Breaded Mushrooms
This breaded mushrooms recipe is so easy!!!! You’ll feel like you’re at the sports bar munching away!
- Wash and clean mushrooms and pat dry with a paper towel
- Don’t remove the stems – they’re a good handle for eating the mushrooms!
- Try and get small mushrooms all around the same size
- Next, set up your breading trays or small bowls:
- Tray 1: Flour, salt, pepper, garlic powder
- Tray 2: Eggs, 1 tbsp water – lightly beaten
- Tray 3: Panko, salt, cayenne pepper
- Bread mushrooms through breading stations (1. flour, 2. egg mixture, 3. bread crumb mixture) and set coated mushrooms in air fryer basket at least one inch apart.
- Use the stem like a kickstand and set on the sides of the mushrooms
- Be sure to place mushrooms in a single layer – no stacking!
- Spritz with olive oil
- Air fry at 375 for 6 min
- Flip mushrooms and spritz with olive oil and air fry for 6 min more
- My favorite dipping sauce is most definitely jalapeno ranch dressing or sprinkle with a little parmesan cheese

What is the best way to air fry Frozen Mushrooms
My personal preference is to make from scratch – but if you’re in a hurry for a great appetizer and have a box of frozen breaded mushrooms – here’s my rule of thumb for frozen foods in the air fryer: look at package directions and do SAME TEMP – HALF THE TIME. Finger Foods Feast!
